WordPress.org has just launched another edition of the Hosting Survey – a study that aims to better understand the state of WordPress hosting in 2025. It’s a great initiative that not only highlights the diversity of approaches among hosting providers but also helps set the direction for the entire industry.

What is the survey about?

The survey is aimed at hosting companies – both major players and smaller providers. The previous survey took place in 2023. From now on, it will be held every year to deliver an up-to-date overview of the WordPress hosting landscape and its ongoing evolution. The questions cover topics such as:

  • technology (PHP versions, databases, caching, performance tools),
  • security (backups, vulnerability scanning, incident response),
  • WordPress user experience (installers, onboarding, default plugins),
  • support and reliability (support channels, SLA, uptime guarantees),
  • e-commerce and advanced features (staging environments, payment integrations).

A key innovation this year is that the results will not only be published in a full report but also accompanied by raw survey data. This is extremely valuable as it will allow us to track trends and compare how WordPress hosting evolves over the years.

Why is this important for the hosting industry?

For hosting providers, participating in the WordPress Hosting Survey is more than just filling out a questionnaire. It’s a real investment in development and market positioning.

1. Transparency and credibility

The publication of results – along with raw data – means that participating companies show openness and willingness to collaborate. This builds trust among customers, who increasingly choose services based on transparency and a provider’s reputation.

2. Influence on WordPress.org recommendations

Survey results inform updates to the official WordPress hosting recommendations. This means that active companies can have a real impact on which practices are recognized as best in the ecosystem. For many providers, this could be an opportunity to stand out in the eyes of users and the broader community.

3. Benchmarking and competitive analysis

Through the survey, companies gain access to comparisons with other providers – both local and global. This provides excellent material for competitive analysis, identifying strengths, and spotting areas for improvement (e.g., faster support, better SLA, newer PHP versions).

4. Shaping industry standards

WordPress powers a massive portion of the internet, and hosting is its foundation. A collective study of the market helps set quality standards – from security and performance to customer support. This benefits not only WordPress users but also the entire hosting sector.

5. Promoting best practices

Providers that invest in modern solutions (e.g., automated backups, caching systems, staging environments) can present their approach as case studies for others. This works both as promotion and as a contribution to the growth of the entire ecosystem.

How to participate?

The survey is open until October 15, 2025. You can fill it out online or submit a prepared spreadsheet version. Take the WordPress Hosting Survey 2025.
