While basking in the sunny surroundings of Ibiza, Konrad Keck sat down with Erlend Eide, founder of Servebolt, for a relaxed yet insightful conversation during a hosting industry event. This was not just small talk under palm trees – Konrad dived into key topics that reveal the current direction of Servebolt and the broader hosting landscape.

Erlend wasn’t originally supposed to attend the event. “I wasn’t the guy receiving the invitation,” he explained. “Lasse, my new CEO, received the invitation. But lucky for me, he had the communion for his daughter this weekend. So I had to go.

That stroke of luck turned into a valuable experience. Erlend emphasized the value of the event:
It’s amazing. It’s really good to meet all the guys in the industry and kind of have this relaxed nice atmosphere… get to know people better and get an update on what’s going on.

Leadership changes at Servebolt

Perhaps the biggest news Erlend shared was about the new CEO at Servebolt, Lasse Hall, who started in February. Erlend spoke with real admiration for his new teammate: “He is the guy that is going to take Servebolt to the next level. He has quite a few abilities that I don’t have myself.

Erlend was especially confident in Lasse’s leadership experience: “He finds a lot of pleasure in leading larger teams… and was doing really well in Dubai in a management consulting company. But he was ready to have something that is just his project.

It’s clear that Servebolt is shifting gears, with a fresh face at the helm and renewed energy in its vision.

Doubling down on what works

As for market conditions? Erlend didn’t sugarcoat the situation: “The market gets harder. The competition is super hard.” His solution, however, is grounded and strategic. Erlend described a long-running technical project to separate Servebolt’s platform from its managed WordPress hosting. This move will allow Servebolt to offer its performance-focused platform to more companies, not just WordPress users.

The new thing for us is then, going out to the market with basically our technical platform.” This change reflects Servebolt’s deeper belief in performance and infrastructure – not necessarily the content management systems (CMSs) that run on top of it.

WordPress? Just one of many options

When asked about the evolution of WordPress, Erlend gave an honest and somewhat unexpected answer:“I don’t know anything about WordPress, and that has always been my thing.” He made it clear that WordPress was chosen not out of personal passion but practicality: “It is the most popular platform with the largest user base. That’s where we sell our product.

But at the core, Erlend insists Servebolt is CMS-agnostic. “All the benefits you get on Servebolt in terms of performance work for all the other CMSs and systems as well.

What this means for Servebolt’s future

Erlend Eide’s honesty is refreshing in an industry often filled with marketing buzzwords and vague roadmaps. He isn’t pretending to be something he’s not. Instead, he’s focused on what makes the Internet faster and more efficient, and now has a CEO to help carry that mission further.

As a journalist who has followed the hosting world for years, I find Servebolt’s approach reassuring. Instead of chasing trends or building hype, they are returning to their roots – performance, stability, and real engineering. That kind of clarity is rare and much needed today.
