DreamHost, the privately held hosting provider serving over 400,000 customers and 1.5 million websites, launched Remixer on March 10 — a conversational AI website builder that generates a complete, production-ready website from a single natural-language prompt and publishes it directly to a customer’s domain within the DreamHost hosting platform.

Remixer is not a standalone SaaS product. It is embedded into DreamHost’s hosting plans, included at no additional cost with packages starting at $1.99/month.

That integration model — AI site generation bundled directly with hosting, domain, and deployment infrastructure — reflects a broader competitive shift in which traditional hosting companies are racing to absorb capabilities that were once the exclusive territory of website builder platforms like Wix and Squarespace.

How Remixer Works

The workflow starts with a text prompt. A user describes their business, project, or vision in plain English — “a dog rescue organization in Portland” or “a Mediterranean restaurant with online reservations” — and Remixer generates a complete first draft of the website in approximately two to three minutes. The output includes multiple pages, page layouts, draft copy, imagery, and site structure.

From there, the user refines through conversation. Instead of navigating menus, dragging blocks, or editing CSS, the user types instructions like “make the hero image darker,” “add a pricing table with three tiers,” or “include a contact form on the About page.” Remixer applies the changes and shows a preview in a staging environment. When the user is satisfied, a single click publishes the site to their DreamHost-hosted domain with SSL, DNS, and hosting preconfigured.

Direct editing is also available. Users can click on any element — a headline, an image, a section — and modify it manually. The system supports both the conversational and the hands-on approach, or any combination of the two.

“Small business owners shouldn’t have to choose between getting online quickly and actually owning what they build,” said Ralph Castro, VP of Product at DreamHost.

What It Builds

Remixer is designed for what DreamHost calls “information-first” websites — a term the company uses for content-driven sites that don’t require complex application logic: business sites, restaurants (with menus, hours, and reservation prompts), portfolios and galleries, lightweight blogs, landing pages, nonprofit sites, and e-commerce stores with Stripe payment integration. It handles multi-page layouts with navigation, responsive mobile design, and built-in SEO defaults without requiring the user to install plugins or configure settings manually.

An example of a Remixer-generated site can be seen at crossourpaws.com, a dog rescue organization whose multi-page site — including subpages, imagery, and copy — was built using the tool.

The resulting sites are static and lightweight: no database, no CMS overhead, no plugin dependencies. DreamHost positions this as a performance advantage — fast load times, minimal maintenance, and reduced attack surface — while acknowledging that users who need advanced extensibility (custom plugins, complex dynamic functionality) should use Liftoff, the company’s separate WordPress-focused AI builder, instead.

Ownership and Portability

One of Remixer’s notable differentiators is its emphasis on data ownership and platform independence. Sites generated by Remixer produce standard source files that the customer owns outright. Unlike proprietary website builders where the site exists only within the vendor’s ecosystem, Remixer-built sites can be exported and hosted elsewhere.

This is a meaningful distinction in a market where vendor lock-in has been a persistent complaint against platforms like Wix and Squarespace. A Wix site cannot be moved to another host without a complete rebuild. A Remixer site, according to DreamHost, can.

Pricing and Packaging

Remixer is bundled with DreamHost hosting plans at no additional cost. The hosting plans themselves are tiered:

Plan4-Year RateAnnual RateMonthly RateRenewal Rate
Launch$1.99/mo$2.89/mo$4.99/mo$7.99/mo
Growth$3.49/mo$3.99/mo$5.99/mo$12.99/mo
Scale$7.99/mo$9.99/mo$12.99/mo$19.99/mo

All plans include Remixer, NVMe SSD storage, unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, free SSL certificates, three months of free email, a free domain for the first year, and 24/7 support. Higher tiers increase the number of websites allowed (25 on Launch, up to 100 on Scale).

The pricing positions Remixer-plus-hosting as a direct competitor to Wix ($17/mo for the Light plan), Squarespace ($16/mo for Personal), and Hostinger’s website builder ($1.79/mo for a comparable introductory tier). The key difference: DreamHost includes real shared hosting infrastructure — not a walled-garden builder platform — meaning the same account can also run WordPress sites, custom applications, or anything else a standard hosting environment supports.

DreamHost’s Three-Tier Website Strategy

Remixer is one piece of a broader product strategy. DreamHost now offers three distinct paths to building a website:

  1. Remixer — Conversational AI builder for straightforward, information-first sites. No WordPress. No CMS. Lightweight, fast, portable.
  2. Liftoff — AI-assisted WordPress builder for users who need plugins, WooCommerce, membership sites, or other functionality that requires the WordPress ecosystem’s extensibility.
  3. Custom Service — DreamHost’s team of human web experts builds a free four-page custom website for customers who prefer a complete handoff.

This tiered approach lets DreamHost address the full spectrum of customer needs — from a first-time business owner who just wants a site live in ten minutes, to a developer who needs full WordPress control, to a business that wants professional design without doing any work at all.

The AI Arms Race in Hosting

Remixer’s launch lands in a market where virtually every major hosting and website builder platform has introduced or expanded AI site generation capabilities within the past year. The race to integrate AI directly into hosting is now an industry-wide phenomenon.

Hostinger

Hostinger’s AI website builder generates a complete site from three questions (brand name, site purpose, description) in approximately 45 seconds. The output includes SEO-optimized copy, contact forms, and image galleries. Users then customize with a drag-and-drop editor. Hostinger also offers an AI logo maker, an AI heatmap analyzer that predicts user engagement patterns before launch, and Kodee, a conversational AI assistant for 24/7 support. For more complex projects, Hostinger Horizons builds functional web applications through natural-language conversation. Plans start at $1.79/month.

Wix Harmony

Wix launched Harmony on January 21, 2026 — a new AI builder that integrates natural-language site creation with Wix’s existing visual editor. The AI agent, called Aria, responds to conversational instructions and applies changes directly within the editor: layout adjustments, commerce features, page redesigns, or full site generation from a prompt. Wix describes Harmony as a “hybrid” approach — AI-generated starting points with full drag-and-drop manual control. Sites run on the same production infrastructure as all Wix sites. The rollout began in English and is gradually expanding to all Wix users.

GoDaddy Airo

GoDaddy’s Airo is an AI experience included with any new domain purchase. It generates a website — including theme selection, copy, images, and core pages (Home, About, Contact) — and can also set up e-commerce, bookings, and basic SEO. Beyond the website, Airo generates logo options, social media posts, email marketing templates, and can suggest and register domain names. GoDaddy relaunched Airo from the ground up earlier this year, doubling its speed — AI responses now generate in under 10 seconds, down from noticeably longer waits in the original beta. The more advanced Airo Plus tier adds marketing strategy and SEO optimization features.

Bluehost WonderSuite

Bluehost’s AI offering, WonderSuite, takes a WordPress-native approach. The suite includes five components: WonderStart (AI-powered onboarding that collects business details and applies them across the site), WonderTheme (design templates), WonderBlocks (customizable block patterns and page templates), WonderHelp (in-editor AI guidance), and WonderCart (e-commerce features for cross-selling, upselling, and discounts). Unlike the other platforms, WonderSuite generates WordPress sites specifically, positioning it for users who want AI assistance but plan to stay within the WordPress ecosystem long-term.

Squarespace

Squarespace has integrated AI across its existing feature set rather than launching a dedicated AI builder. AI tools assist with SEO scanning, product description generation, promotional email drafting, and design suggestions. The approach is less “generate a site from a prompt” and more “enhance the existing builder workflow with AI at each step.”

What Makes DreamHost’s Approach Different

In a market where nearly every competitor offers some version of “describe your site, we’ll build it,” the differences between platforms are becoming more about philosophy than raw capability. DreamHost’s positioning rests on three pillars that distinguish Remixer from the field:

Hosting-first integration. Remixer is not a separate product bolted onto a hosting account. It publishes directly to the customer’s DreamHost-hosted domain with SSL, DNS, and backups already configured. The site lives on real hosting infrastructure — the same infrastructure that can also run WordPress, custom code, or anything else — not inside a proprietary builder environment. This matters for users who may start with a simple AI-generated site but eventually need more.

Portability over lock-in. The output is standard source files the customer owns. This stands in contrast to Wix, Squarespace, and GoDaddy, where the site is inseparable from the platform. For small business owners concerned about vendor dependency — a concern that grows as businesses mature and their requirements evolve — this is a significant differentiator.

Simplicity as a feature. Remixer-generated sites are static: no database, no CMS, no plugins. DreamHost positions this as a strength for the target audience — small businesses that need a professional web presence but do not need (and do not want to maintain) a full content management system. The trade-off is clear: less functionality in exchange for faster performance, lower maintenance, and fewer things that can break.

What Hosting Providers Are Actually Competing Against

Remixer’s launch is one data point in a structural shift that is redefining the boundaries between hosting companies and website builder platforms.

For years, these were distinct product categories. Hosting companies sold server space, bandwidth, and uptime. Website builders sold design tools, templates, and drag-and-drop editors. Customers chose one or the other, or used both (building on WordPress, hosted on a separate provider).

AI is collapsing that separation. When a hosting platform can generate a complete, polished website from a text prompt and publish it to a live domain in minutes — with hosting, SSL, DNS, and backups preconfigured — the value proposition of a standalone website builder narrows considerably. Why pay $17/month for Wix when a $1.99/month DreamHost plan includes both the builder and the hosting?

The standalone builders are responding by going deeper: Wix Harmony’s hybrid AI-plus-manual editor, Squarespace’s design sophistication, Shopify’s commerce depth. These platforms are betting that design quality and ecosystem richness will justify their premium. The hosting companies are betting that “good enough” AI generation combined with real hosting infrastructure and lower prices will win the majority of the market — particularly the millions of small businesses that need a professional web presence but not a design masterpiece.

For DreamHost specifically, Remixer represents a strategic bet on a segment that the company, founded in 1996, has served for nearly three decades: small businesses, freelancers, and creators who value ownership, simplicity, and straightforward pricing over feature complexity. Whether the AI-generated output is polished enough to compete with the design quality of Wix and Squarespace — and whether the conversational editing experience is intuitive enough for non-technical users — will determine whether that bet pays off.

The global website builder tool market, valued at approximately $2.9 billion in 2022, is projected to reach $32.2 billion by 2032 at a compound annual growth rate of 27.1%, according to DataIntelo. Those numbers suggest there is room for multiple approaches to coexist. But the direction is clear: in 2026, if your hosting platform doesn’t build the website too, you’re already behind.
