group.one is expanding its foothold in Central and Eastern Europe with a new deal to acquire Elkdata OÜ, the company behind Estonia’s well-known hosting brand Veebimajutus.ee. The agreement strengthens group.one’s position in one of Europe’s most digitally mature markets and follows the company’s earlier move into the region through the acquisition of Webglobe.
Veebimajutus.ee has become a standard starting point for Estonian entrepreneurs by offering hosting, beginner-friendly WordPress tools, and a set of AI-driven features in a single platform. Thousands of small businesses rely on it each year to get online, secure their sites, and reach customers. CEO Daniel Hagemeier says Estonia’s strong digital ecosystem and Veebimajutus’ reputation made the company a natural fit for group.one’s strategy.
Why It Matters for the Industry
Elkdata CEO Margus Merilai says the acquisition will enable access to a wider range of digital tools while preserving the local approach that Veebimajutus.ee is known for. Once regulatory approval is obtained, group.one plans to integrate additional services into the Estonian platform – including its proprietary AI website builder, online booking tools, social-media management and the WP.one managed WordPress stack.
This acquisition is significant for several reasons:
- It deepens group.one’s presence in one of Europe’s more digitally advanced countries, strengthening its CEE (Central & Eastern Europe) footprint.
- It shows how large hosting and web-services providers are consolidating smaller, locally trusted brands to scale platform services and expand offerings.
- For local Estonian SMEs, the transition could mean access to more advanced tools and international backing, potentially accelerating growth for local digital service ecosystems.
- For the regional market, it may raise competitive pressure for independent hosts and website-builders, pushing consolidation or partnerships.
Yet another solid acquisition by group.one
This is yet another strong acquisition by group.one, reinforcing its strategy of growth through targeted take-overs of regional players. The company already serves more than two million customers and operates brands such as one.com, Zoner, WP Rocket, Rank Math, Hostnet.nl and Herold.at. group.one reported pro-forma revenues above €400 million for the financial year ending September 2025.
Elkdata was founded in 1998 and has built a local base in Estonia over nearly three decades, with revenues of approximately €2.85 million in 2024 – up about 16% year-on-year.
