Group.one has announced on their LinkedIn page the acquisition of Telia Finland’s domain and web hosting business through their Finnish entity, Zoner Oy. This strategic move marks another significant acquisition for group.one, following their recent purchase of Webglobe.

In the announcement, group.one CEO Daniel Hagemeier expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting the company’s commitment to providing exceptional products and services to their growing customer base in Europe. “We are excited to welcome Telia’s Finnish domain and hosting customers to our Zoner brand. This acquisition emphasizes our commitment to deliver exceptional products and services to an ever-growing customer base across Europe. With this acquisition, we will drive sustainable growth and new opportunities for current and new customers in the region.” said Hagemeier.

Zoner Oy, a Finnish web hosting service provider, will acquire Telia Finland’s entire web hosting and domain business. This acquisition enables Zoner to better serve Finnish entrepreneurs and small businesses in establishing and maintaining websites and online stores.

With this business acquisition, we can offer even more advanced services and high-quality customer service around the clock to former Telia customers who will be transferred to Zoner, as well as to Zoner’s current and future new customers. This means, among other things, offering and customizing the latest products and digital tools to suit our customers’ needs.” said Zoner Oy’s CEO Toni Claren.

The acquisition, expected to close on August 1, 2024, will see Telia Finland’s web hosting and domain services business transferred to Zoner. The customers moving from Telia to Zoner primarily consist of entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Kaisa Pajari, Telia Finland’s Head of Business Solutions, also commented on the acquisition, stating that the market for web hosting and website services is increasingly focusing on specialized operators who integrate these services into broader digital solutions. “There is excellent opportunity for further business development under group.one ownership, as this is their core focus. At Telia, we will focus more strongly on our core telecom businesses according to our strategy,” said Pajari.

This week has indeed been fruitful in terms of industry acquisitions. In addition to group.one’s latest move, notable mentions include HostPapa acquiring Brandpa to enhance their domain services and HOSTAFRICA acquiring Naijawebhost to strengthen their market presence in Nigeria. Such activity has not been seen in the industry for a long time, marking a period of significant consolidation and expansion in the web hosting market.
