ICANN has announced that Hanoi, Vietnam, will host several important events in 2025. One of the main events is the Contracted Parties Summit, scheduled from May 5 to 7, 2025, where registrars and registry operators will meet to discuss key industry matters. Following that, the APAC DNS Forum will be held from May 8 to 9, bringing together domain experts and stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region. This event will offer both in-person and online participation, making it more accessible.
In addition, a Universal Acceptance event, focusing on making the internet more inclusive, will take place during the same week.
Earlier this year, ICANN discussed finding ways to reduce costs, focusing on trimming the travel and contractor budgets, which stand at $13 million and $24 million respectively. However, personnel costs—ICANN’s largest expense at $90 million—are expected to remain unchanged, and no layoffs are planned at the moment.
As ICANN gears up for these major events in 2025, it raises the question: will they factor these budget concerns into their planning?
With these anticipated reductions in revenue, it remains to be seen how ICANN will balance the need to invest in important events like those planned for 2025 while managing budget constraints and slowing domain registration growth.
