Identity Digital announced on their LinkedIn profile that they have entered into a significant partnership with the Government of Anguilla (GOA) to manage the .AI domain. This deal is a key move for both parties, as the .AI domain has grown considerably due to the rise of artificial intelligence technologies.
The partnership involves Identity Digital providing backend registry services for .AI, replacing the previous CoCCA platform. Their modern and secure infrastructure aims to improve the scalability, security, and reputation of .AI, making it a trusted domain for businesses connected to artificial intelligence. This shift is expected to increase the revenue Anguilla earns from the domain, which already accounts for a significant portion of the country’s income, contributing 20% of its revenue in 2023. Since April 2024, when 425,060 domains were registered, we observe a steady increase in the number of registrations. Over the course of four months, up to October, nearly 108,000 new registrations were made. In comparison, between December 2023 and April 2024, about 71,000 new domains were registered. The government has plans to reinvest these funds into various local projects, including infrastructure improvements and public services.
Identity Digital’s CEO, Akram Atallah, emphasized their commitment to offering country codes a stable platform, allowing governments to connect global users to their communities. Anguilla’s Premier, Ellis Webster, expressed his optimism about the partnership, highlighting the shared vision of sustainability and growth for the .AI domain.
The contract, awarded through a competitive tender process, includes a revenue-sharing agreement where Anguilla retains the majority of the profits. Importantly, this deal comes with a minimum revenue guarantee, securing financial stability for Anguilla over the next five years.
In conclusion, this partnership marks a new chapter for the .AI domain, ensuring its continued growth and stability despite relatively high costs ($70 per year) and the fact that the .ai domain is formally tied to Anguilla.
As artificial intelligence continues to expand, .AI is set to become a leading domain globally, benefiting both Anguilla and businesses worldwide. This deal is not just about technology; it’s about securing a sustainable future for Anguilla, leveraging its digital assets for long-term prosperity.
