A .com bought through GoDaddy’s v3 Domains API registers for $9.79 and renews for $14.99 a year, $8 below GoDaddy’s standard renewal rate of $22.99. The lower renewal price holds only while auto-renew stays on. A manual renewal, even one placed through the API, is charged at the standard rate, according to GoDaddy’s developer documentation.
When GoDaddy opened a beta of the API to developers and their AI agents in July, as we reported at the time, it covered search, registration and DNS. Its October 15 announcement of an expanded Developer Platform listed “domain purchase with preferred API pricing,” and the developer documentation sets out the price list for API purchases.
Member-Level Rates Without a Membership Fee
Registrations through the v3 API are charged at what GoDaddy calls member-level rates, with no membership fee, no API access fee and no limit on the number of domains. Any account with a billing method on file qualifies from its first registration, with no volume threshold. The discounted rates apply only to purchases made through the v3 API. Purchases through the older v1 and v2 APIs or through the GoDaddy retail site are charged at standard rates, and premium domains are excluded.
GoDaddy lists rates for 20 TLDs. Prices come in two stages: availability checks and suggestions return indicative prices, and a registration quote returns a token that locks the exact price charged. Buying several years upfront locks the price for the term, with the first year at the registration price and the following years at the discounted renewal price.
| TLD | Registration, first year | Auto-renewal | Standard renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| .com | $9.79 | $14.99 | $22.99 |
| .net | $11.65 | $16.99 | $24.99 |
| .org | $7.49 | $15.99 | $23.99 |
| .co | $8.99 | $42.99 | $59.99 |
| .io | $29.99 | $69.99 | $89.99 |
| .app | $7.99 | $19.99 | $27.99 |
| .xyz | $0.99 | $18.99 | $25.99 |
| .co.uk | $4.99 | $9.99 | $12.99 |
Selected one-year rates in US dollars from GoDaddy’s developer documentation, as of October 28, 2026.
Auto-Renew Decides the Renewal Price
Auto-renew is on by default, so a domain registered through the API renews at the discounted price unless someone switches it off. Renewing manually, whether through the API or the GoDaddy account, means paying the standard rate. GoDaddy recommends checking the renewal quote for the exact price before renewing, and since October 8 the Domains API has had endpoints for setting auto-renew and transfer lock.
Across all 20 TLDs in GoDaddy’s documentation, our calculation puts auto-renewal 20% to 40% below the standard renewal rate, with .au at the low end and .us at the high end. The difference is $8 for .com, .net and .org. The jump from the first-year price to the first renewal differs much more from one TLD to another. A .com renews at about 1.5 times its registration price, while .xyz moves from $0.99 to $18.99.
Hosting and Email Joined the Platform in September
The price list sits inside a wider platform. GoDaddy’s changelog records a Commerce API as available on August 27 and the Hosting, Email and Shopping APIs on September 29. The Shopping API lets platforms browse GoDaddy products and complete purchases. The October 15 announcement presented the hosting, email and commerce APIs together, and GoDaddy describes the expanded platform as available free to customers worldwide.
The Hosting API deploys and operates apps on the Node.js hosting GoDaddy added to its Web Hosting plans in August. An app can go live only after it is attached to a Web Hosting subscription, which can also be bought through the Shopping API. The Email API provisions mailboxes, on platforms such as Titan, for domains the account already owns, and GoDaddy’s announcement adds that it automates the MX, SPF and DKIM records.
