The .ai domain, the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Anguilla, has reached a major milestone by surpassing half a million registrations. According to the latest data, as of October 1, 2024, there are 533,068 .ai domains registered, marking an increase of over 54,000 domains since July of this year. Notably, the number of registrations has doubled since June 2023, when it stood at 248,609.
Growth dynamics
Since April 2024, when 425,060 domains were registered, we observe a steady increase in the number of registrations. Over the course of four months, up to October, nearly 108,000 new registrations were made. In comparison, between December 2023 and April 2024, about 71,000 new domains were registered.
The growing interest in the .ai domain can be attributed primarily to the artificial intelligence boom. Tech companies and startups increasingly choose this domain to strengthen their presence in the AI sector. Despite the high registration cost, around $70 per year, potential buyers are not deterred, suggesting that the .ai domain is seen as a long-term investment.
Future prospects
Looking at the current growth trend, further increases in the number of registrations can be expected. Despite relatively high costs and the fact that the .ai domain is formally tied to Anguilla, its popularity is expanding globally, demonstrating its attractiveness in the digital world and among tech companies
