EURid’s Q3 2024 report highlights impressive progress in key areas, showcasing their ongoing commitment to a secure and sustainable internet landscape. With a renewed certification under the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), EURid reaffirms its dedication to environmental responsibility. But sustainability is only part of the story. In response to evolving security needs, EURid also made significant advancements by implementing the NIS2 Directive, enhancing both security and transparency in domain management.

A key part of their security efforts was the launch of the EURidity system in May 2024. This system automates identity verification for domain name holders, helping to detect suspicious domains. As a result, between January and July 2024, EURid flagged 33,987 domain names as suspicious, a significant increase from 18,763 in the same period of 2023. This reflects a stronger focus on online security.

On the operational side, EURid reported 170,211 new domain name registrations in Q3 2024, a 7.75% rise compared to Q3 2023. The total number of .eu domain registrations reached 3,670,426, with a stable renewal rate of 83%, showing solid user retention.

Germany, the Netherlands, and France remained the top three countries for .eu registrations, with Germany leading at 963,885 domains. Germany also had the highest number of registrars, totaling 97. Additionally, there were 714 new IDN registrations in Q3 2024, showing a continued interest in internationalized domain names.

This quarterly report highlights EURid’s dual focus on environmental responsibility and strengthened online security measures, indicating a proactive approach to managing the .eu domain space responsibly.
