Job summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a single engineering team to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure software solutions. This role focuses on day-to-day technical leadership, people management, and delivery execution within a defined product or platform area. The Engineering Manager works closely with Product, Architecture, and Operations to ensure the team delivers high-quality outcomes aligned to roadmap and business goals.
What you will do
- Technical Leadership
- Lead technical execution for a specific product, service, or platform area.
- Ensure designs and implementations follow established architecture, security, and reliability standards.
- Promote best practices in coding, code review, testing, CI/CD, observability, and performance tuning.
- Partner with senior engineers and architects to plan and implement refactoring, modernization, and tech-debt reduction.
- People & Team Management
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of software engineers and senior engineers.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations; provide regular feedback and run effective1:1s.
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and skill development to build a strong, diverse team.
- Delivery & Execution
- Collaborate with Product Management to refine scope, priorities, and release timelines for the team.
- Own sprint planning, execution, and delivery for the team’s backlog.
- Ensure high quality through testing, code reviews, and adherence to SDLC and compliance standards.
- Identify risks and blockers early and drive resolution through coordination with partner teams.
- Operational Excellence
- Monitor and improve the health of the services owned by the team (reliability, latency, errors, cost).
- Participate in incident management, on-call rotations, and RCAs; ensure follow-through on action items.
- Drive incremental improvements in stability, automation, and operational efficiency for the team’s services.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product, Architecture, SRE/DevOps, Security, and QA to ensure alignment from design to release.
- Represent the team in project discussions, status updates, and stakeholder reviews.
- Translate product and business requirements into clear, actionable work for the team.
What you will have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2-4 years in a people-leading role.
- Hands-on experience building and operating services on modern cloud platforms(AWS/GCP/Azure) and frameworks (e.g., Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, or similar).
- Strong understanding of agile development, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
- Proven ability to lead a team to deliver high-quality software on time.
