DevOps Working Student for Portal Operations team (hybrid)

About the team:

The Portal Operations Romania team operates and improves infrastructure and services used by millions of WEB.DE, GMX and Mail.com customers.

Our work includes Kubernetes-based platforms, Linux systems, virtualization infrastructure, monitoring and alerting, automation, databases and reliably operating the business-critical services developed in Romania. We closely collaborate with other teams from Romania and Germany.

As a working student, you will work alongside our experienced system engineers and gradually take responsibility for real operational and infra tasks.

About the Working Student program:

This program is intended for students (currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program) who want to gain experience, following what they learned in a specialized faculty, in order to become IT specialists.

Main responsibilities:

• Support the deployment and operation of applications on K8S-based platforms as well as virtualized infrastructure.
• Troubleshooting and administration of Linux systems.
• Investigate technical issues and incidents together with experienced developers.
• Automate recurring operational tasks using Bash, Python.
• Contribute to the development of CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, and infrastructure configuration.
• Create, improve and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.

We appreciate:

• You are currently enrolled in computer science, IT, engineering, or a similar technical study program.
• You have a good understanding of operating system concepts and Linux system administration.
• You have basic knowledge of containerization technologies as well as Kubernetes, and/or you actively show interest in learning these technologies.
• You approach AI with curiosity and critical thinking, leveraging it in your daily work.
• You have some experience with Git and at least one scripting/programming language.
• You enjoy troubleshooting and approaching technical issues in a systematic way.
• You are curious, willing to learn, and comfortable asking questions when you don’t know.

Would be a plus:

• You enjoy experimenting with AI-assisted tools and are motivated to adopt new technologies that improve how you learn and work.
• You understand fundamental networking concepts such as DNS, load balancing, and TCP/IP stack.
• You have experimented with NoSQL DBs.
