Job Description

InMotion Hosting is seeking a Data Center Operations Manager to lead data center operations in multiple locations. This role involves ensuring operational standards, uptime, and readiness while supporting infrastructure growth. Responsibilities include day-to-day operations management such as maintenance, incident response, and team leadership to maintain smooth and effective systems and services for the company and customers. The role involves leadership duties including managing and developing data center team members, being the primary escalation point for operational issues, and coordinating with Systems, Network, and Support teams for cross-functional initiatives. Operationally, the manager oversees server readiness, maintenance, hardware upgrades, inventories, scheduled maintenance, RMAs/vendor coordination, and uptime targets. They maintain environmental checks for temperature, power, HVAC, and safety procedures. The role requires keeping operational documentation up-to-date and training teams on hardware and software handling for evacuations as needed. The candidate will contribute to procurement decisions for new sites, products, and projects. Ideal candidates have over 6 years of Linux-based data center operations experience, previous leadership in managing data center teams, budget management experience, expertise in enterprise data center environments, exposure to network and storage operations, HVAC and power supply knowledge, and understanding of cloud-based virtualization technologies including LXC/Incus, Virtuozzo/OpenVZ, and OpenStack. The role requires availability for on-call responsibilities and international travel. Locations include Ashburn, VA and Los Angeles, CA.

Requirements

  • 6+ years Linux-based data center engineering/operations experience
  • Previous leadership managing data center teams
  • Experience with budget management
  • Enterprise data center environment troubleshooting and implementation experience
  • Exposure to network and storage operations
  • Knowledge of HVAC management, power supply, UPS, cooling/heating
  • Strong understanding of cloud virtualization technologies (LXC/Incus, Virtuozzo/OpenVZ, OpenStack)
  • Availability for scheduled on-call and international travel
