The Datacenter Technician & Linux Support Agent role at KnownHost demands a highly customer-oriented individual with superior analytic skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under pressure. The successful candidate will be responsible for racking and installing equipment, physically troubleshooting server hardware and network connections, maintaining detailed records of work activities, and updating internal systems. They will also be expected to install network cables and terminate RJ-45 and fiber cables as necessary. The position requires excellent written and verbal English communication skills and the capacity to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Candidates should have a strong working knowledge of Linux shell (bash), Apache, PHP, MySQL, email protocols (POP3/IMAP/SMTP), FTP, DNS, and various standard web hosting applications and protocols. Familiarity with control panels such as cPanel/WHM, Plesk, and DirectAdmin is essential, alongside the ability to install PHP from source and manage separate Python versions. The role also involves using iptables firewalls (CSF, APF, etc.) and supporting common customer website applications like Drupal, WordPress, MediaWiki, Magento, and ZenCart. Basic MySQL commands for support or troubleshooting are required, including importing/dumping databases and running simple SELECT statements or ‘SHOW PROCESSLIST’. Physical capabilities include the ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. A high school diploma is required with at least three years of related experience preferred but not mandatory.
