At Web Hosting Canada (WHC), the Data Engineer role is central to transforming raw data into actionable business intelligence that drives company strategy and customer success. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the candidate will play a pivotal role partnering with cross-functional teams such as Support, DevOps, Marketing, Product, and Finance to design and build scalable data pipelines, infrastructure, and tooling. The goal is to enable data-driven decision-making, enhance customer understanding, and explore AI and automation opportunities. Responsibilities include architecting efficient data ingestion, storage, and processing systems optimized for speed and maintainability; implementing robust validation, testing, and governance frameworks to ensure data accuracy and compliance; integrating internal and external data sources including third-party APIs and real-time streams; and documenting data lineage to promote transparency and accessibility. The role demands strong technical expertise with over 5 years of SQL (MySQL) experience, 3+ years in Python or PHP, familiarity with vector databases, NoSQL, data embeddings, and classification techniques. The ideal candidate thinks strategically about data’s business impact, communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and demonstrates a pragmatic, curious approach to problem-solving. Statistical acumen is required, including understanding data distributions, percentiles, heuristics, and decision-making under uncertainty. WHC fosters an innovative and supportive environment where data engineers have the opportunity to build pipelines from scratch, receive mentorship from senior leaders, influence product and business decisions, and help shape Canada’s tech landscape. This is a hybrid role based in Montreal with some remote flexibility. WHC is an equal opportunity employer encouraging diverse applicants.
